Herons Halt Harold Wood

05 Nov 2011

Wanstead win by 74 runs

Because he fancied Harold Wood's opening bowler, skipper Joe Palmer arranged to win the toss and open the batting.  He denies all suggestions that that an agent was involved, and has been spotted burning several videos on his bonfire.

Sadly, Joe's transactions were ended by a fantastic catch at mid on.  Merv Westfield hit 2 sixes and then was caught and bowled off a slower ball.  Kishen Velani looked solid before being bowled for 18.  The Akram twins continued their current custom of running out colleagues (some claim it was a repeat of the old Botham/Boycott story, but JP refuses to comment further).  Adnan, the handsome one of the twins, scored 26 before trying to paddle-sweep the opening bowler and getting bowled.  Arfan, the far less handsome twin, managed 51* despite many muddled-sweeps and helped the Herons to their strong tally of 140 for 5.

"The quicker we finish, the quicker I get to the bar," was the long and the short of Joe's motivational speech between the innings.

Zain started with a fantastic first over, a wicket maiden.  Well supported by Merv, he proceeded to take another wicket in his next over.  A superbly sharp reflex catch by esteemed leader Joe Palmer (thanks for the tenner, JP - Ed.) enabled a wicket for the Herons' KiloVolt (work it out, readers), and there followed some runouts as Harold Wood were restricted to 66 all out inside 8 overs.
