Wanstead Ladies vs Great Waltham    26 October

The Heronettes Squeak Home by One Run

Wanstead ladies won the toss and decided to bat first (as usual).

There were good performances from everyone, especially Sadie Lucas who made a quick 22 to help Wanstead reach 89-4 after 10 overs.

Great Waltham ladies looked set to reach the target early having made 45 runs after 4 overs,  but some great fielding by Atrat Shah and a run out and wicket each for Anjali, Alicia and Saba slowed Waltham.s run rate by the 8th over.

Waltham now needed 17 to win off 12 balls, but a great over by Anjali restricted them to just 6 runs, which left the skip to bowl the last over with 11 runs to play with!  A dot ball followed by another dot ball and a wicket (which was not supposed to be taken due to the retired batsman making a comeback-doh!) still left Waltham needing 11 runs to win.  The skip was punished for taking the previous wicket by getting hit for 3 and 3 again.  Needing 6 to win now, the last batsman went all out and whacked the ball as hard as she could resulting in a 4 (but not a 6!) and lead to Wanstead winning by 1 run!  Phew!

A fun and close game for both sides: let's hope its not as close next time.
