Darts at The Drive

Tuesday 24 January

Tuesday was the first of our fortnightly Darts evening at the cricket club, after the very successful first ever Wanstead Darts Open Championship.  No surprise that the pairing of James Foster and Jon Hinton were through to the Semis, however it was as Group A Runners Up, finishing behind Armani 'don't call me Shoab' Baigh and Rakesh Patel, who amazingly got permission to attend from the wife and thankfully managed to get home on time.  Ivor and Henry were left wondering what could have been as they and the pairing of Mahesh and Adnan were sent packing early doors.

The only thing that was certain in Group B was that the pairing of Tony Burgess and Arfan Akram were not progressing to the next stage as they lost all three of their matches.  This then left 3 teams level with 2 wins each.  To this point nobody knows why Sam 'the man' Velani and Mani 'the cani' Velani did not make it to the semi's.  Somehow that meant the Group winners were Nugget and Sanjay 'High Tower' Batra with the Runners Up as Ron and James 'the Aussie Sheilas' Fitzgerald.

The first Semi saw Nugget and Sanjay take on Fozzy and Hinty.  The match had to go to a decider as both teams were tied on 1-1 after the first two legs.  Nugget confidently predicted a check out and duly delivered.  Fozzy and Hinty were left gutted as they clearly felt momentum was with them.  (Thanks to both for attending and supporting the club once again)

Ron and James were hoping to be the first Aussies to win a Darts week at the club, however Rakesh and Armani  were thinking differently.  This match also went to a decider leg.  It was the very sober Rakesh and Armani that edged it and reached the final.  Never mind Aussies! Ha ha

Nugget, who has only lost once in a final, was definitely in the mood to win another darts week.  He and his partner Sanjay proved a little to much for Rakesh and Armani as they won both legs and earned this weeks accolades!

Shot of the week goes to Ron for his bull's eye effort in the group stages. Thanks to all who participated and a big thanks to Nigel for setting the boards and lighting up before he had to dash off and rest up.
