South Loughton CC v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club C Indoor Team on Sat 10 Mar 2018 at 11.00am
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Can I just say before i begin the report that a big thanks has to go out to Steve and Len for filling in the drops outs we have this week.I will obviously be reviewing their performance in the report.
Well the match started with Wanstead only having 4 players in attendance. Jim was delayed with netball issues and Ibrahim with Redbridge roundabout issues. South Loughton kindly let Wanstead bat first so Steve and Matloob took to the field with instruction to stay in and see out the over as the Wanstead 3 & 4 were players in reserve. In other word put on the runs while the tale can wag.
Well as night becomes day Wanstead were two wickets down and the tail was in. Steve was bowled playing all around the ball and Matloob forgot that if he doesn't have either a leg or bat behind the batting crease and the bails are removed then he has to walk to the pavilion (the pavilion being a bench in the hall). So the instruction to stay in, well they either were ignored or it must have been said in swahili. Either way having Len and Ramon into bat in the third over was something nobody anticipated or wanted to happen. No disrespect to either of them, but the openers have a far better batting reputation for scoring runs. When Len is thrown onto the batting he asked as if suggesting that we runs threes every ball and the team could amass a reasonable total. Well Ramon didn't really say anything in response but just smashed 26 runs in boundaries so the frightening thought of running for the total was quickly shelved and so Ramon was retired. Except there was no one to replace him, that was until the hall door opens and in walks Jim who is immediately sent into bat. on his way we asked if he's seen Ib, Jim replies he has seen him trying to park and that he will be here soon. Well Jim faces a few deliveries and scores one run and is bowled and no sooner as Jim scored his solitary runs, Ib arrives and puts his bag down and finds himself walking to the crease to join Len as Jim had been bowled.
As welcome a Jim and Ib were, they didn't really add much to the total and like Jim, Ib was back in the gallery only after being caught and adding 3 to the Wanstead total. Eventually Ramon and Len tried to see the innings to the end but were defeated in the last over. Luckily for us Len and Ramon reached it, for it was looking very bleak at points. It could have been a very early exit for the Wanstead team had those two not put up some resistance.
I don't remember much more than whats already been said because the oppose picked off the bowling and chased down the Wanstead total with relative ease. These memory black spots I think are a direct response to the bleakness of the Saturday matches. The extras on the total, the single figure batting, are all...what we expect
