Match report Congratulations are due the U19s who overcame the twin challenges of atrocious weather and a substantial run chase. Due to the conditions and a delayed start, the match was reduced to 16 overs a side. Newham won the toss and started well but faded somewhat to 35 for 2 off the reduced powerplay of 5 overs. However, a third wicket stand of 33 set a base that their middle order set about exploiting and batting without inhibition, reached a total of 142 for 9 with 42 coming from the last 4 overs. The weather undoubtedly contributed to what was, for us, a poor day in the field. Honourable mentions go to Bilal for his 5 for 26 off 3 overs (I have the ball if you want it!) and Aryan's even rarer 5 wickets (1 ct, 4 st).

Waseem and Aryan set about reeling in the opposition total with 24 off the first 2 overs before Aryan fell to an excellent catch at backward point. Bilal and Nabeel put matters beyond doubt by taking the total to 101 for 4 by the 11th over and the win was secured with 2 overs to spare. Batting honours go to Nabeel for his 51 off 27 which allowed the rest of the team to play around him.

Many thanks to all for putting up with conditions - the light was offered to Finlay and Nabeel but they opted to continue, securing an important win. Thanks also to Newham for making sure the match went ahead. Match fees will be collected next week - I know where you all live!
