Match report Match report- Wickford 4ths v Wanstead 6ths Sat 31st May 14

On a bright and sunny day Wanstead batted first on a flat pitch. Wanstead started positively, with Shivum Pitrola and Alkesh Solanki taking on the Wickford opening attack. Shivum however fell to a superb catch at mid-wicket after blasting powerfully to the mid-wicket region but straight down the fielders throat. Alkesh continued the good start with eight boundaries including a 6 over the bowlers head. However the new Wanstead batsman could not support Alkesh at the crease, as the resurgent Wickford attack took regular wickets. Once Alkesh fell, Wanstead struggled to push on despite the best efforts of Michael McArdle who finished 16 not out after dispatching two sixes over the bowlers head. Abdullah Bin Liakat and Mazham Ali also looked promising before they were dismissed. Wanstead ended on a disappointing 103 all out.
For the second game in a row, Tariq Jan and Michael McArdle applied the early pressure, with Michael picking up an early wicket swinging the ball back into the left hander, hitting middle and off stump. Tariq was unfortunate to not pick up a wicket, bowling teasingly just outside off stump. Wickford developed a strong second wicket partnership with their third batsman finishing 69 not out after a great batting display. Wanstead stuck at it and it paid off when Matloob Piracha got the outside edge, breaking the partnership, with a superb catch by Shivum who kept well all game. Wanstead were unlucky towards the end of the game with catches just falling out of reach, off the bowling of George Carlisle and Alkesh. Wickford went on to win by 8 wickets.
