Chelmsford CC 5th XI v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club 6th XI on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 1pm
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won By 54 runs
Match report
Carnage at Selection on the Monday lead to carnage at Chelmsford on the Saturday. Carnage that was done in the best cricketing spirit. Big thanks go out to Chelmsford for the spirit in which this game was played. Alex (Chelmsford capt) and young team were as usual the great opposition they always have been. Thanks you all for making the game exciting and very sporting.
Now to the match. As they say sometimes it okay to lose a toss. After a very quick discussion about what we should do, Alex tossed the coin, Ramon called incorrectly and Chelmsford put us into bat. Just what Ramon wanted to do. So in walks the openers Ewan and Aman with instructions to score a quick twenty runs each and more if possible and count anymore a bonus. Any Ewan lasts until 17 runs are on the board before striding in front of middle stump and thus getting caught LBW for 3. In comes Nick A to the crease and begins bashing and clubbing the Chelmsford total around the park for a great total of 55 before being caught on the boundary going for another 4 runs. Meanwhile at the other end Aman was quietly knocking his way to a good 35 before being caught. Bilal had come to the crease to replace Nick and Abdullah had taken their place at the crease to add to the total. Abdullah get a golden duck so returns to the chairs on the boundary and Bilal scores a quick 18. Louis and Ryan scores 17 and 6 respectively, Sifth scores 21 and Simran a quick 19. which leads is to the last pairing of Ali and Ramon. The total was 193 for 9 and Ramon says to Ali we have 3 overs to get to 200. First ball to Ramon, 4 runs and the next two are played and missed.Next over Ali faces....he's bowled. Innings over, Wanstead 197 all out. The Captain is reasonable pleased and goes in for some Chelmsford teas.
Players all tea'd up we head back to try and bowl Chelmsford out before they get to 197.
Simran gets the first over. He marks out his run and waits for the umpire to say begin. The words are uttered when the field is set and in charges Simran. First ball, it pitches just short of a length and rises up at the Chelmsford opener. It clips his glove and carries through to be caught. Chelmsford 0-1 and rattled, next over Bilal continues causing the Chelmsford batsmen problems and takes a wicket. Simran continues the barrage of attacking deliveries causing difficulties for the batsmen, wickets falling lots of close oops and aaahs. Simran finishes his first spell with 4 wickets in the bag. The Chelmsford middle order pairing of Green and Bailey dug in really well and held out the Wanstead attack until Nick A gets hit and caught at mid off and the tail is now open to being routed by Simran who comes back and ends the Chelmsford innings at 143. Bowling figures of 10.3-1-28-7 shows just how good Simran bowled this weekend. Well done Simran and Nick and Well done to Wanstead. You all played really well
Now the regular captain returns and no doubt Monday selection will break up this formidable outfit giving the Captain more conundrums to sort out.
