Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won Won by 56 runs

Match report Today's match was the opening match of the indoor season. After the usual rush to get to Bancrofts school in time and the traffic preventing this from happening at 7.15pm the Wanstead A U15 team took to the field against Walthamstow A. Not having seen a number of the players for a year and this being their first indoor match of the season. I decided to let the players play to their strengths and with a little bit of guidance Naail (Captain for the day) decided the batting line up as we lost the toss( nothing unusual there) and the openersntook to the indoor pitch. Naail and Saurav had been given a target of retiring. Suarav retired on 26 and his innings was as good as an indoor innings gets. His cuts to the corners and running between the wickets saw him retire on 26. Naail on the other hand was building his own great innings, made better by the way he was out. Naail clipped a ball to the keeper but nobody heard it. Naail walked to the gratitude of the opposition and gained the praise of all for his integrity. Well done Naail. With the departure of Saurav and Naail, at the crease we had Abdul and Waseem. Abduls innings was one full of aggression his score card awash with. 6's and 4's, an excellent let innings. Waseem was beginning to show the same fervour with a spectacular straight 6, however shortly after that was run out. With Abdul retired on 25 and only a couple of overs left of the 12, Aditya and Finlay see the innings out with some good shots closing the Wanstead innings with 118-2 on the board, just what the manager ask at the beginning.
Now the batting lineup for Wanstead was strong, their bowling lineup was better. At the change of innings the team talk was around how to win this match. With every fielder also being a bowler meant that Naail was spoilt for choice. Anyway it's decided that Waseem should open the attack. Third ball the Walthamstow no2 cuts a ball and Saurav takes a brilliant catch- 1 down. Saurav's spinning keeps the Walthamstow players guessing and in his 2 overs Saurav fashions two run outs. Into the Wanstead attack comes Abdul and Aditya who bowled some excellent lines that Walthamstow are struggling to keep up with the required rate. Walthamstow still had three wickets in hand and their no 3 was beginning to chase the runs taking 12 off Abdul's last over so Naail turns to his fifth bowler Finlay. In Finlay's first over their is 1 run and 1 run out. In his second over there is a wicket on the second ball, the player is bowled. That leaves the Walthamstow player as last man standing and like all good players he was going to give the game a go. He hits Finlay's fourth ball for six followed by a single and the final ball of the over....Finlay bowls a yorker and takes out the stumps. Walthamstow are knocked over for 62 in the 9th over, Wanstead win and so begins the A team's assault on the league. Well done Wanstead A
