Match report After a convincing win over reigning champions Brentwood, the Herons may well cherish ambitions of taking the crown this year. This fourth league victory of 2010 suggests that Wanstead are a very good team, with seven batsmen having passed 50 and eight bowlers sharing the wickets.

In wall-to-wall sunshine Arfan Akram won the toss, batted, and was promptly out second ball. Further wickets fell until John Chambers (51) and Mervyn Westfield (70) settled the innings and put the Herons into a position to launch an attack. As many as 99 runs accrued from the last 13 overs as Shahid Saeed (51) and Matt Smith played outstanding knocks.

Brentwood too lost their captain, the most prolific batsman in the competition, in the 1st over. Fayyaz Khan clung on to a tremendous skier, to the relief of all, as the visitor's overseas player Shiroman was dismissed. Wickets continued to be taken as Brentwood fell further and further behind the asking rate.

Overton Drive was lucky with the weather, as local downpours disrupted several nearby games. A good crowd gathered and a happy atmosphere prevailed.
