Olympics NOT @ Overton Drive

Olympics NOT @ Overton Drive The following press released has just been issued by the Herons' management committee: The plan by Wanstead Cricket Club to allow their Overton Drive ground to be used as a temporary base for an Australian tour operator when the Olympics come to London next summer has been shelved.

Planning permission had been obtained for a temporary change of use of the ground to provide tented accommodation to members of an Australian company called Fanatics Australia.

However, Fanatics Australia have informed Wanstead Cricket Club that they have reluctantly decided that they cannot go ahead with the Olympic project following a much lower than anticipated response from their members. The unexpected delays in getting the necessary approvals for the project cost them crucial time in being able to advertise to their members.

“We at the cricket club are obviously extremely disappointed that this project will not proceed.” Said Martin Pluck, Wanstead Cricket Club’s chairman. “This is not only because of the loss of income to the club and local businesses, which would have been extremely useful in the current economic climate but also because we genuinely believe that it would have enhanced the Olympic experience for the local neighbourhood .”
