Wanstead vs Ilford 8 October
Wanstead won by 86 runs
With their stupendous success in running out as many as three of their team-mates (in a six-a-side contest), Adnan and Arfan Akram have some explaining to do, perhaps to "Learned Counsel." Their attempt at offering explanation and apology to colleagues was simply received by pithy expressions of contempt. One of the twins (Arfan has asked me not to name him) was even wise enough to run out skipper Joe Palmer in this opening game of the indoor season.
Despite suffering such sabotage the Herons survived to score 141 runs, with contributions from all the batsmen who were not blinded by incandescent rage at being run out.
The effort in the field was led by Jon Cade's supreme brace of wickets. No one else, he says, made any useful contribution at all, not even Mervyn Westfield with three catches.
